Hi i’m Samraaj. I went from selling ice cream out of my garage to now building my second VC backed startup.
I’m obsessive and a craftsman at heart. I throw myself at what I do to unhealthy levels. It has led to some cool experiences:
- I rebuilt a 1981 motorcycle
- Became a pro-level dancer
- Mastered a lot of classic cooking techniques and ice-cream science
At my old jobs (dev, PM, design mngr) I was starved for the creative fulfillment that owning a craft could give me. That’s why I used to throw myself at my hobbies.
When I started a business, it clicked. I became happier & more ambitious+focused because I got real fulfillment the company itself!
Now, I’m trying to solve problems I have faced at all of my previous jobs (Msft, Intuit, Expensify, Bravado).
I want to bring building and design to the people who are closest to the users & insights. Companies should be able to learn much faster without gatekeeping who can create, who can experiment, and who can visaulize.
More than that, I’ve become obsessed with this adventure.
Doing startups is hard, demoralizing, stressful (hello white hair!), and often a bad tradeoff.
But it’s also an art – a craft – that i can endlessly improve in and fall in love with the journey.
“focus on the journey rather than the goal. What matters most is playing the game the right way and having the courage to grow, as human beings […] When you do that, the [win] takes care of itself.”
– Phil Jackson
